The Strategy & Communication Summer Internships at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) (headquartered in Rockville, MD) are designed to provide training and experience to undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in health care systems, public relations, writing and digital communications, including social media.At this time, we are only considering local candidates in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.\n

Who We Are:


The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, (MAPMG) is one of the nation's premier multispecialty medical groups and is the largest integrated medical group in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Founded in 1980, the medical group has more than 1,700 Permanente physicians spanning more than 50 subspecialties. Together, we serve approximately 800,000 Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia at 34 area medical centers, plus several community hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.


About the Internship Program:


The summer internship program at MAPMG is a 12-week program, that generally begins in early June and ends in early August. The internship program is designed to expose undergraduate and graduate students to a wide range of career opportunities in the healthcare field with valuable professional skills that can be transferred to any occupation or industry. During the internship, students grow their verbal communication skills, time and project management capabilities, and hone presentation and networking skills.


Students selected for internships gain on-the-job training that integrates education and career development. They will work directly with a mentor, who will provide supervision and mentoring. Together, the intern and mentor will develop an internship plan identifying specific projects or assignments to ensure a meaningful learning experience. Sample assignments include conducting research, analysis and reporting, community outreach, web design, project management, and implementation of healthy workforce programs.Interns receive a competitive stipend for participation in the program.


Internship Summary:


The Strategy & Communication Summer Internships at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) (headquartered in Rockville, MD) are designed to provide training and experience to undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in health care systems, public relations, writing and digital communications, including social media.At this time, we are only considering local candidates in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.


Responsibilities:



  • Communications interns will work directly with experienced communications professionals, physician subject matter experts and spokespeople to develop content for social media, internal newsletters, external websites and other public relations activities.

  • Past projects included interviewing physicians and writing blogs and articles for internal and external audiences, developing graphic design templates, planning and supporting live events, creating short videos and creating and implementing social media campaigns.

  • Design and photography skills are a plus.

  • Science writing skills are a plus.


Qualifications:



  • Must be a student working towards bachelor's or master's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or similar programs are encouraged to apply.

  • Ideal interns are self-starters, energized by a fast-paced work environment, exercise exceptional judgment, enjoy working on teams, have excellent attention to detail and are interested in improving health care delivery.
