Food Bank For New York City works to end hunger and increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income New Yorkers through a range of programs and services that focus on nutrition, education and financial empowerment. The organization procures and distributes food to approximately 1,000 emergency and community food programs throughout the five boroughs; provides food safety, networking and capacity-building workshops; manages nutrition education programs for schools, after school programs and emergency food programs; operates food stamp outreach and education programs; operates a soup kitchen, food pantry, senior programs; and coordinates the largest Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program in the country; and conducts research and develops policy to inform community and government efforts to end hunger throughout the five boroughs.
Location: Bronx Warehouse - Hunts Points, Bronx - NYC
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: Work closely with the Director of Warehouse Operations to manage, in a hands-on manner, the effective, efficient, and safe operation of the Food Bank warehouse. Ensure proper management and oversight of warehouse processes including product receiving, storage and distribution; Food Bank drivers; pest control and sanitation; repacking; inventory control and recycling programs. Responsible for daily opening and closing of Food Bank warehouse.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Oversee the implementation of warehouse operating procedures while ensuring safe a working environment in full compliance with OSHA guidelines; • Responsible for warehouse receiving, storage and distribution. Assuring proper handling of supporting documentation in compliance with internal control procedures; • Responsible for the daily dispatching outboard trucks and drivers; receiving inbound deliveries, managing the daily product selection; loading trucks for next day delivery and closing the warehouse; • Responsible for pest control and sanitation while assuring Feeding America and other regulatory policies and guidelines are followed with required documentation completed; • Oversee recycling program and sale of cardboard and pallets; • Responsible for reviewing and documenting daily temperature control of cooler and freezer assuring proper documentation is completed; • Develop and maintain productivity levels and generate reports as needed; • Supervise any assigned staff; • Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree a plus, but not required with extensive experience • Valid New York State driver's license required • Three years of supervisory experience • Computer knowledge and experience necessary; experience working with computer inventory programs a plus • Good communication skills • Knowledge of warehouse bar coding and RF technology • Complete Food Safety Certification within 3 months of starting in the position
